This “everything but the skin” division, premiering in 2024, was developed for all of our members who enjoy modifying forms and creating flowing construction, ready to receive a skin. Why not show what’s under the ‘hood’? How our pieces turn out have everything to do with our prep – not only the skin but the manikin.
Those who enter this division are permitted to return to NTA competition with the form mounted.
We encourage photos to showcase how you, as an example, depict a form ‘out of the box’, alter the position, set the eyes and any cast parts, then enter it into this championship without skin or glue. Or, present a wrapped form, or carved, or a combination of those techniques.
Your entry will be chosen from 5 categories, multiple ribbon categories, and a critique sheet by respective judge. Final selection made by judge panel from all blue ribbons.
Degree of necessary detail for the species. Anatomical accuracy, balance, and locomotion. Attractive and/or dynamic pose for the species. Degree of difficulty factored in. Surface does not require scoring or “roughing up”. Showing all alterations is key to high point’s accumulation.
Example: by painting the surface it would camouflage work which might hide your efforts.
